Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced
development of the body through core strength and flexibility. “The core” are the muscles the surround the center of our bodies, i.e. abdominal, obliques and back muscles. Pilates can be done by anyone at any level and the classes are designed so that anyone at any starting point can give it a try.
One of the best things about the Pilates method is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy, and people who at various stages of physical rehabilitation. Participants wear workout clothes (loose fitting comfortable clothes) no need for shoes.
Everyone brings a mat to lay on. It is recommended to be consistent with Pilates exercises to feel the true benefits. The classes are not sequential in that if you miss a class you miss all the development.
